DailyOperation 062917 MEEK MILL v4
On June 29, 2015, Meek Mill dropped his second studio album, ‘Dreams Worth More Than Money.’ It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, a first for him. The project was originally set to drop in 2014, but was stalled due to legal troubles that landed the former Philadelphia battle rapper in jail for several months.
Maybach Music Group boss Rick Ross served as the album’s executive producer and beats were provided by producers including Metro Boomin, Boi-1da, Cardo and Bangladesh. Nicki Minaj, Meek’s girlfriend at the time, joined him on “Bad For You” and second single “All Eyes on You.”
Other A-list guests on the album included Future, the Weeknd and Diddy. The third single, “R.I.C.O.,” featured Drake. It became the catalyst for the year’s biggest rap beef. A month after ‘Dreams Worth More Than Money’s release, Meek blasted Drake on Twitter for not supporting the project like the other guests. Meek then heated things up by accusing Drake of not writing his own rhymes.
Drake promptly responded with “Charged Up” and “Back to Back.”Meek Mill later released his own responses. Two years later, the feud is still alive with Drake taking shots at Meek Mill on recent tracks like “Lose You.” Although many say Drake won the battle, Drake’s ghostwriter accusations follow him to this day.
Later in 2015, director Ryan Coogler used Meek’s album opener “Lord Knows” for a triumphant training sequence on the streets of Philadelphia in his film ‘Creed.’ The scene turned the song into the “Gonna Fly Now” of a new generation.
